Well this lovely, long bank holiday weekend has now finished and I’m back at work. And of course today was crazy! Call after call after call. Some pleasant, some downright awkward, and some unbelievably stupid.
I also had a few people trying very hard to hide their accent and speak in a posh voice. We get this from time to time. Nothing wrong with it at all. There are times when each of us try to speak better, for instance if we’re ringing the bank manager. You can always tell when someone is trying to get their pronunciation and grammar right on the phone. There’s a lot of ‘Ers’ and ‘Ahrs’, a lot of clearing the throat, and the customer always seems to have difficulty telling us what they actually want. If they spoke as they normally would they’d get to the point quicker and save a lot of time.
I also had the obligatory internet call. This is where the customer is looking at the internet when they decide to call. It’s always the same procedure. They tell me they want a quote on a particular policy. I ask them how they heard about it. They tell me they’re looking at it on the internet, to which I ask them for the name of the cover. They rarely know the name even though it is on the web page that they are looking at, but they can always tell me the price. So they’ll say something like ‘I’m looking at the £60 cover without excess’.
‘Ok, I know which one it is now. How can I help you with this?’
‘Can you give me a quote?’
‘It’s the price that you’re looking at.’ Is my normal answer.
Had a lovely day off. Spent it with the family. Just a pity there’s not more of them. I’m expecting work to be busy and not too nice tomorrow. Day after a bank holiday we get a lot of strange people phoning in. Like termites crawling out the woodwork.
They should make St George’s day a bank holiday and rename it England Day. Afterall Georgie wasn’t English and never set foot in England. He was from the Middle East. Bit offensive to an English person like me. Plus he’s not a good example for animal welfare. What with him killing a dragon.
I know he supposedly rescued some woman from being eaten by the dragon. But what would she have chosen? Being burned alive, walled up alive, drowned or tortured to death because she was female and could have been witch, or being eaten by the dragon? Maybe we should have a poll. Or send answers on a postcard.
I hear the weather is supposed to change on Wednesday. Say goodbye to summer people, you’ve had it. It’ll be back next year. All two days of it.
I have really enjoyed my time off work this past week. As normal it has gone by too fast. Bit of a stupid comment that. Time passes at the same rate whenever and wherever. It’s just that when you’re relaxed you don’t notice the passing of time, hence it seems to go by quicker. When you’re bored, at work for instance, you notice time passing, so it seems to be a lot slower.
Hate the thought of being back at work tomorrow. Only good thing is that it’s a four day week. Hopefully I can get through it without any problems!
So looking forward to the customers complaining that they couldn’t get through to claims, and they’re supposed to be open 24 hours. I shall enjoy explaining that if they’d pressed option 1 they would have got through to claims who are open 24 hours. Pressing option 1 is far too much of a strain though.
So looking forward to the customers who posted cheques on Thursday and expect them to have been delivered by now, even though we’ve just had two bank holidays.
Where has common sense gone? What is happening to the education system in this country? You’d think that people can’t be this thick. If you worked in a call centre and took the calls that I take, you’d certainly be worried about the education system and the future of this country.
