Red Meat Causes Cancer?

I saw on the TV this morning that ‘they’, whoever ‘they’ are, have now said that red meat can cause cancer. Well, this is not actually news. It’s been known for sometime. If you haven’t seen it watch the video of ‘Forks Over Knives’ (forksoverknives.com). It details research done showing the effects of an animal based diet and the effects of a plant-based diet. It’s quite eye-opening. The video is from 2011. However, in the 1970’s China began research on its own population to see what the correlation was between diet and cancer. The research was published in 1981.

The statistics show that countries who have the largest animal based diet also have the largest number of deaths due to coronary disease or cancer, while countries on a large plant-based diet have a lower number of deaths due to these medical reasons.

Researchers have also found that switching to a plant-based diet can reverse the effects of many conditions, including diabetes, arthritis, obesity, cancer, and many others. Now I’m not telling anyone to give up any medication they are on, but it’s been found that a plant-based diet makes people feel healthier and they feel that they have more energy.

In my mind the question is: ‘Why is this only now being said in the media, when it’s been known for sometime?’ The answer is very simple. The meat and dairy industry is a multi-billion pound industry. In the UK the only time we will get to hear the truth of this is when it begins costing more money in the NHS to treat these problems, than the meat and dairy industry is bringing in. After all, money is more important to people in power then the health of the workforce. If one worker dies there is always another to fill the place.

Meningitis Vaccine

I heard on the news today that they are trying to come to some kind of monetary deal over the new meningitis vaccine. The drug company, Novartis, say they want £75 for the drug while the government say it should be £5. Words can’t describe how appalled I am about this.

I have been very lucky that no one in my family has ever suffered from this terrible disease. But when I see these children on TV who have suffered, and I see families who have lost children to it, I am heartbroken. My heart goes out to these people.

To think that a company can put a price on a child’s life. That the money is more important than a child. This is evil. This is corporation at it’s most corrupt. They disgust me.

There are many conspiracy theories in the world. Here’s a company that wants £75 before it will help save your child’s life. What more proof do you want. Life means nothing to them. They don’t care if a child dies, if a child has to be surgically mutilated for it to survive. After all this is just more experimentation for them. More data to produce more profit.

On their website Novartis states:

‘Our commitment: improving health

We aim to improve global health. Through our business, we make an important contribution to society: we provide healthcare solutions to address the evolving needs of patients and societies worldwide.

Our patients and customers need to trust us and our products. They expect us to do business responsibly and ethically.’

‘Responsibly and ethically’ obviously doesn’t include children.

Here’s another paragraph on their website:

‘Responsible business practices

We strive for high performance with high integrity. It is our conviction that responsible business results in better business.’

They need to look up the word ‘integrity’.

Life is important. In every form in comes in. Imagine the world if we were surrounded by death, destruction, dying. There are parts of the world where this very thing is happening. I don’t know about other people but it makes me realise even more that life is important and should not be priced or pushed aside.

If Novartis were as ethical as want us to think they are, or operated with integrity like they state, then a vaccine for children would be free.

I wonder what pay packets the directors are on. I bet it’s more than £75 – the price of a child’s life.

Getting Away With The Ridiculous

Have you noticed how firms seem to be getting away with the ridiculous at the moment? Take illness for instance. It used to be classed as discrimination to fire someone because of their health problems, but now it seems that it’s a perfectly reasonable excuse to get rid of someone. All they need to say is that you are incapable of doing your job.

Off sick with cancer, pneumonia, or liver disease? Too much time off work means you are incapable of doing your job. Sight or hearing problems? You are incapable of doing your job. Bye.

Trouble is that some nice, friendly customers – i.e. normal people like you and me – are picking up on the ridiculous and joining in with it.

About two months ago a customer decided to complain about me heavy breathing. I had a cold and, unfortunately for me, I had the mouthpiece too high up so the customer could hear me breathing. He complained! Because he was the customer the company upheld the complaint. Ridiculous!

And to go one better…Another colleague of mine had the same complaint of heavy breathing. She suffers from asthma and was having problems getting her breath. The complaint lodged by a caring customer was yet again upheld. Ridiculous!

And to think that if the customers had told us that they could hear us breathing, we would have held our breath! If we die while at work our next of kin gets £25000, so it would have been of benefit to them.

Something Different – Poison

I was recently sent an email from Avaaz about the decline in Britain’s barn owl population – http://www.avaaz.org/save_britains_barn_owls This apparently is due to the use of rat poison on farms around the country. I signed the petition and added my thoughts in the small comment box. I thought I would share my thoughts here.

If you don’t want a plethora of rats and mice around then barn owls eat rats so we don’t need poison. We need more barn owls. Rat poison is barbaric. Not only does it kill rats but it also builds up in the system of other animals that eat the dead or dying rats. This is why it’s killing off the barn owls. The rest of the owl species are also suffering, as are other birds of prey. This cycle will continue as the poisons build up in the next in the food chain and in the soil until, ultimately, it will reach us.

This is not just a problem with rat poison but with all pesticides used in the garden and farm lands. They all should be banned. We are currently noticing a decline in garden birds – check the use of pesticides on slugs and insects that people use without thought in their garden. The dead slugs and insects are being eaten by our common garden birds – sparrows, starlings, thrushes, blackbirds, etc. Carrion birds such as magpies and crows are flourishing – they are eating the dead garden birds. In the next few years we will see a decrease in these carrion eaters as the poisons slowly build up in their systems. Poisons that cannot be digested.

These poisons are putting money in big company pockets, and they use fear tactics to get people to buy them. They frequently tell us about the diseases we can get from rats and mice. But how many diseases do we get from other humans? The number is in the hundreds and many of them are deadly. These companies have also tried to blame cats for the decline in the garden bird population. This is nonsense. Cats have always caught birds, right through the centuries. But all of a sudden they are on some kind of genocide mission?

Rats especially eat the rubbish that humans discard. They clean up after us. If we were cleaner and more concerned about our environment the rat and mice population would not be flourishing. How often do we see people throwing litter on the streets? It’s a common occurrence. If we didn’t do it we wouldn’t need the rats to clean it up. They would naturally die off. Here’s a question I like asking people – Who is the vermin? Is it the one who drops the rubbish or the one that cleans it up?

Come on people think for yourselves – birds eat the things we don’t want around. We need more birds not more poisons. Poisons should be banned.
