Moving Seats (Or Musical Chairs)

I have to work a certain amount of Saturdays in the call centre, and the last few months my department has been required to sit at other desks. This is because the department downstairs is required to sit upstairs with us, so they are given our desks! That’s right. We have to move elsewhere so another department can sit at our desks! And boy, have some of them been messy.

We’ve had dirty cups and dirty tissues left on the desks. I’ve had rubbish left in my draws. My department colleagues have had things removed from their draws and tampered with. Chairs have been altered when there is a notice asking for them not to be. And there’s even been chewing gum left under the desk.

These are people working for the same company. Some of them seem to be dirty scrubbers. We shouldn’t be thinking of our work colleagues in this manner, but if they act like it, then…

What is it with this country now? Why are people not taught manners or consideration for others? Is this the fault of their parents? I don’t think so. Adults know right from wrong. These people are dirty and lazy.

Bad Recruitment

This morning I got an email from a well known online job site, offering a job in my department for £2000-5000 more than what I’m on. Well, I read and re-read this email and the job specs. I was furious. As you can probably imagine.

I got into work at 7.30am and went straight to the sales manager who was in early. I asked him why the company was advertising jobs in my department for more money. I told him I’d been there for many years and wanted a pay increase.

He assured me that it was incorrect. For another department he said. I told him that the other department was not mentioned. He didn’t seem unduly bothered. Just told me to email HR, which I did. Much use that was. They can’t be bothered to get off their backsides for a mere agent.

About two hours later I spoke to another sales manager. She took a bit more notice – probably because two managers overheard and the pay on offer was more than they were on too. This sales manager asked me to forward the email to her. She then got in touch with HR. They answered her, but then she’s a senior manager so they would. Turns out that not only is the job for a different department, but the vacancies have already been filled.

Of course our HR department is blaming the job site. Specs all wrong and vacancies filled. However, I’m thinking that the specs advertised were given to the job site by someone in HR. The job site couldn’t just make them up! They may not have been told that the vacancies were filled, but they would have to fill the advertisement with the details they were given.

It won’t be too difficult to find out what the new people are being paid. Are I know quite a lot about how the company works and I can use that to my advantage.

I pointed out to the sales manager that if it was my department and new people were being offered far more pay than any of us, then I would be photocopying the email and I would hand it out to every person on the floor. It would cause absolute chaos.

I’ve done this before and got our department our bonus when the managers tried to say that we weren’t eligible. So they already now what I’m willing to do.

Watch this space. This could be all out war.

Moving Team – Again

Just before christmas I was told I would be moving to another department. I wasn’t worried as I’d worked there before and enjoyed it. I went to a great team – some of whom I already knew, and some I didn’t. And it just happened to be the manager I had in that department before. I was quite happy with the move.

Just after christmas I was told that our team were splitting up as my manager was taking over the rookies who needed a helping hand to settle in. So we all went to different teams. No problem, I was absolutely fine with where I ended up. Everyone was great.

I was there for two months and yet again I was told I was moving. This time it was because certain people, who did particular policies, had to be put together as they were all spread out. Luckily, I’m again quite happy with where I’ve ended up. Great people and a great manager.

However, some people have not been so lucky. One particular friend has been moved to another department, after some pitiful excuse that the company have used. They said she did something wrong on a call so have moved her. Thing is, a number of people have done something wrong on calls and they haven’t been moved into the other department.

There’s also a case of someone asking to be with their friends so strings were pulled to keep three people together!

I wondering how this is fair. Seems to be something underhanded going on here.

Business Needs

Due to business needs I’ve been ‘selected’ to go to another department. I’ve been in this department before and I do enjoy it so I’m not that worried about the move. The problem is with the way it’s been done. Usually internal jobs are advertised internally first and then externally. This hasn’t been advertised at all. A bunch of us have been ‘selected’ to go, and not everyone is happy about it. So there’s a lot of ‘wandering what’s going on’. There’s a lot of rumours, suspicions, and questions being asked by other agents at the moment, and also by some of the managers. The move came out of the blue and our managers had no choice. This was all done by the sales managers.  Agents want to know why the jobs weren’t advertised, or why certain people were ‘chosen’ and not others. Well it’s quite simple really. Our contracts state that we can be moved around whenever the company wants, due to business needs. Nice little addition to the contract this. Your role is…, and your duties are…, but this may change due to business needs. So basically the company can move us where ever it wants. We can’t say jack shit. If we say no then we are refusing to do our work – gross misconduct. So it’s a case of put up or shut up. If you don’t like it look for another job.
